We took a long-overdue trip to Grand lake this weekend to visit Uncle Big Dan. The boys have been begging us since last summer to go fishing at his house. We packed up the car Saturday morning and were on the road only one hour later than we had planned...that's a new record! Uncle Big Dan spoiled the boys ROTTEN with everything their little hearts desired - snickers, hershey's bars, peanut butter cups, applesauce, string cheese, lunchables, peach juice, milk, chips, hot dogs, hamburgers....hmmm....I know I'm forgetting something...oh yes, Evan was given his first pocket knife! After they each ate 27 mini candy bars, we decided it was time to fish. The boys were elated to try out the Spiderman and Batman fishing poles that Uncle Dan just so happened to have! Within two minutes, Luke had a fish! (for all you fishermen out there, Luke was using power bait) with Daddy's help, Luke brought his huge 36 inch (OK, so maybe it was more like 9 or 10 inches. What's a fishing story without a tale?) rainbow trout to shore. Of course, the boys had to touch it all over....blood and all. They wanted to eat it, but we were fishing at a catch & release pond, so this fishy got lucky. We stayed about an hour, and got a few bites, lots of snags, but no more fish. Evan was a natural at casting, yards farther than his Mommy can cast! Jack enjoyed the whole experience, and still thinks he somehow assisted Luke in catching a fish. Logan walked around in his squeaker sneakers (the best GPS tracking device for babies) and ate daisies. Wes slept the entire time, dreaming of fish, no doubt. We packed up our gear and headed back to Uncle Dan's for lunch. He grilled hot dogs, and the most amazing burgers ever! After lunch, he surprised the boys with trophies! Evan and Luke each received a real trout trophy to hang in their room. Evan won the award for 'Best Caster' and Luke won for 'Best Catch'. Jack won for 'Good Sportsmanship' and received his favorite treat - a pack of Trident gum. I can't say enough about what a wonderful time we had. The boys haven't stopped talking about it since. Uncle Big Dan wins the award for the 'Hostest With The Mostest' and we appreciate everything he did for us! Thank you, Uncle Big Dan!! You're the greatest!

That's awesome!! Braden is jealous - he wishes he could catch a fish, too!
What fun! That looks like a great time.
And PowerBait is OK for anyone under the age of 12. Or anyone that will freely admit they fish with it. :)
Kristen-Dec told us Powerbait is ALL that Ryan uses! Kidding!! :)
I'm going to have to have a "chat" with Uncle Dec...
And Power Bait is wrong. We have Rachael started on flies already!
